What are some relocating tips for moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico? |
I live in Kansas City, MO, now. I understand Albuquerque is the fittest city in the nation. I think it is time to move. I just would like some advise on location want what is a good price on rent. I do not own a car and commute on bicycle, so transit location, shoping. libraries, churches and coffee shops are points of interest for me. My apartment is in the process of being a hotel. My last paycheck from my job bounced. I am tired of the cold. I figured I got my three omens to move. I would apreciate any advice. I moved to New Mexico from Kansas (not the Kansas City, MO or Kansas City, KS area but from Topeka) 24 years ago and I love it down here but Albuquerque is not very bicycle friendly. Have you considered one of the other cities, such as Las Cruces or Alamogordo? Don't even think of trying Santa Fe because nobody can afford to live there. The Nob Hill area in Albuquerque has cute shops and coffee houses. Buy lots of sunblock and a good air conditioner. It is bloody hot in Albuquerque. Learn to speak Apache or Pueblo or Spanish. Think carefully before moving to Albuquerque. We rank high on just about every list of crime. But if you can avoid getting robbed, the weather is very nice: very minor winters, summers are hot, but no humidity. Probably an upgrade from KC weatherwise. Not a very bike-friendly town though. Many of the streets don't have bike lanes, and those that do, are usually driven in by motorists. The bus system is quite good, and getting better, so that's a plus. Also a point to note, is that Albuquerque is about 50% Latino, and that is reflected in the culture. Probably a big difference from KC. |
