I need information on a Kawasaki zzr 250 and if the chain coming off the small sprocket is a regular occurance

At the moment the bike is a bike shop and their trying to tell me that the chain came off the small sprocket on the front coz the chain was too loose. Now i think this is a load of crap coz anyone that has any idea about mechanics on a bike knows if the chain is going to come off it will be the big sprocket on the back it comes off on. It just doesnt sit right what their telling coz when i was riding it i had just done a whole heap of really tight corners and the chain shouldve come off on one of those corners if it was loose. Could anyone who has worked or owned this particular motorbike please let me know whether im off the deep end or im heading the right direction with my thinking. it would be greatly appreciated.

The chain on a motorcycle is much larger than on a bicycle and so has a harder time (momentum) trying to make the turn around the smaller sprocket than the larger one. Add to that the problem where an old, unmaintained chain doesn't like to bend anyway and it will pop off where it's expected to bend most in the shortest distance. Finally the chain has to hop less teeth for the front sprocket than the rear.

Also you're thinking about it all wrong: the problem isn't that it doesn't make sense (it actually does) but that the chain is loose for some reason. Your choice whether to fix it or not; but to close your eyes then claim it couldn't happen that way and so won't ever again is insane.
It depends on what action was taking place when the chain came off the sprocket. Personally if it came off either I would say it is a loose chain, or that sprocket has a broken tooth.
Get a new chain and sprockets.Your chain is probably strecthed and the front counter shaft sprockets wear quickly. When the chain is strecthed,it rides on the top of the teeth.Never install a new chain on old sprockets or new sprockets with an old chain.
Sprockets & chain in good shape, swing arm could be bent, out of alliement? Or you might have to purchase a after market chain tenchioner.
