How do I lower the idle speed of my 2005 Victory Vegas? |
The mechanic at the bike shop increased the idle speed a little bit to help me "get out of the blocks", but I don't like how it runs or sounds now. It appeared he just used a long thin screwdriver and it took him about 5 seconds, but I don't see the adjustment screw anywhere. There is nothing in the manual about it either. what you need is a long phillips head screw driver, the adjustment screw is on the left side of the bike under the gas tank. you mayneed to pull off the triangle looking crome cover ( just pull on it, hand on each side with equal force, it will pull off trust me) if you don't want to pull that off look just above it and you will see the trhotle boddies. the screw is on the right side of the boddies. If you have a tach on the bike you can go by that. The idle needs to be about 850 to 920 RPM's Hope it helps! good luck Source(s): Victory certified Tech. So take it back to him. common sense G'day, what on earth is a Victory Vegas... who would name a bike like that.. shame on them... Anyhow... look down the throat of the carby you may see one or even two adjustment screws in there... BUT.. what you may need to do is adjust the throttle slide ( if it has one) correctly to make sure that it is idling on the idle jet and not the intermediate jet. I would obtain a workshop manual for the bike so you can get serious about working on it yourself and... become your own best mechanic and tuner for your bike.. as a shop cannot do the onroad adjustments that you can do while riding, they cannot afford to spend the time. So get the book.. find the idle adjustment and read what the settings are and follow that to begin with and adjust slightly on the road till you think it's perfect... make sure the engine is hot when doing this, no point when it's cold.. 40years.. the shop manual would have all the details to the bike. it should be set when hot tho. either get a manual, or take it back and tell em its just a bit too much. |
