i wear gel padded gloves while cycling, but still experience pain in my hands. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this aztec vibe wrap. Can I use any bar tape over it? How much would it cost to have a bike shop put this on for me and wrap my handlebars?
Generally, pain in the hands results from a bike that isn't a good fit for you or isn't adjusted well to your frame. Most of the time it's because you're reaching too far and putting too much pressure on your hands. Also, if it's a mountain-type bike with a flat bar, you don't have a lot of options for moving your hands around, which is a great way to avoid pain or numbness in the hands. Check your fit and adjustment with a reputable bike shop, and if that is all good, make sure you are moving your hands often, even if you have to take your hands completely off the bar for some time (one at a time, that is.) If you are riding a drop-bar bike, move your hands from the brake hoods to the top corners to the drops. Repeat as necessary. If you are riding a straight-bar bike, maybe add some bar ends and move your hands from the bar to the corners to the bar ends. Vibration-reducing tape can help too if all the rest is in order. A shop would probably charge $10.00 to $15.00 above the cost of the vibe wrap and the bar tape. Another thing to try would be to dump the gel gloves for regular padded gloves. The gel gloves have a lot of adherents, but the old fashioned no-gel ones might work better for you. Good luck! I don't know to much about the vibe wrap, but if your experiencing pain, then try buying thicker handle grips. this will widen out your grip and relive a couple of small pressure points.
