Crashed my bike.... can I just weld the upper fairing stay back together? |
The upper fairing stay broke off where the stay bolts onto the frame. I am thinking of just taking it into a welding shop and getting the stay welded back together. Can anyone confirm that the stay is made of aluminum? Is this a good idea or should I just get something off ebay? Don't want to ebay it if I can avoid it because I'm outside the continental US and shipping would come out to a lot. simple answer is yes, most welding shops can do both, im not sure what stock is, as you havnt mentioned what kind(brand) of bike you have. im not sure if it varys, and my experience is with yamaha. you could get and aftermarket one that has "ears" that get replaced when broken, this is what racers use. Depending on where the break is, you could insert a rod into the hollow ends and duc tape it togeather, weve done that in a pinch at the track, not recommended for long term street use. Source(s): pit crew/cobble junkie, which means i have had plenty of experience putting broken bikes back togeather with whatever we have on hand. I also am familiar with dealing with welding shops. If it is aluminum it will be fine if the job is done by someone that actually knows how to weld and not just some guy in a repair shop with his little welder. A welder will be able to tell you exactly what kind of metal it is and how strong the weld will be. For starters, your fairing is made of fiberglass, so a body shop may be able to repair any cracks that may have occurred. |
