I can't adjust my rear derailleur. I need help? |
The chain sticks on the rings. The shifting is fine. The tension has been adjusted over and over again. It is an old derailleur and the rings are old, too, but I need to make it last the summer. I'm not good at maintenaince - the bike shops I've visited were crap - and so I need a very simple guide. I'm wondering how gunky it is and how old it is. Remember chains when lubbed appropriately look kind of pristine. Not like chains of old with lots of grease stuck to them. Remember as well that cogs tend to hook and chains tend to stretch. It could be that the cogs are hooked and so it's catching each time. Thoroughly clean with dawn dishwashing soap. Then reaply the lube such as Purple Extreme is what I'm using right now. Very good! Take a look at your cogs and see if they look like shark fins. If they do and you want to solve this. 25 dollar casette and 11 dollar chain. I just thought, if your spring on your derailleur is weak you could have trouble too, but I don't think there's a fix for that other than a new one. Source(s): Experience There should be a black knob on the rear derailleur turn the k nob until it shift smoother without the chain sticking. If that doesn't work try to adjust the small screw that should also be on the rear derailleur. grueling hours of derailleur adjustment |
