How do i build a wheel? |
i just got a crap bike from the shop i work at and i want to try taking a rim apart and putting it pack together. if this comes out well, then i will attempt the same thing on my mavic wheels on my XC bike. when i get there i want to do a 3x 28 spoke pattern. but for now, i am doing a simple 3x 32 spoke wheel. where can i find info (preferably pictures) on how to build it up? i already took most of the spokes out and it looks like a potato chip. there are plenty of sites if you google them, but i would suggest going to the bike shop and asking if you can watch someone...if they can teach you to build one, and then to true it back when you need to, it will save you loads of money in the long run. Yeah lacing a wheel is kind of tricky... I would find a local bike shop and besure to ask to watch them lace it. if you want a how-to book, see if you can find "the bicycle wheel" by jobst brandt. it's the classic that everybody refers to and really boils it down from "art" into a relatively simple process that you follow. or, a newer one that I haven't read is "a practical guide to wheel building" link below. It's not really that hard to do, but if you screw up it might not become apparent until you're out riding, so you want to make sure you do it right the first time. http://www.roadbikerider.com/wb_page.htm... ummmm dont u work at a bike shop dude? how come they dont just teach ya?...i guess if they dont go get a book called Zin and the art of Mt. biking. One good way to start it to lay a new rim over an old ruined rim and move one spoce at a time to the new rim. Line up the vlave stem holes. This was a good, practical way to do it when a rim was ruined. This may be too late on the wheel you are talking about. |
