Are these electric bikes any good? |
I quite often use my bike to go to the local shops approximately 1 mile away. But to get home, I need to negotiate a 10% gradient at one point. So I need to get off and push. That is when I hit on the idea of purchasing an electric bike, i.e., one with a rechargable battery. But how good are these type of bikes? I have been looking at them on Ebay and it's like a lot of people are selling second hand ones because their performance has been, shall we say, "disappointing". Does anyone have experience of electric bikes? I'm interested because I have arthritis in my knees and this might be the answer. I don't see the point. It's defeating the object of having a bike to start with. I sympathise with your predicament regarding the hill, but come on..... Give it some juice and you'll make it. I guarantee, you wont want to push that electric bike up any hills if the thing breaks or the battery claps out. You are doing yourself much more good by riding and even if you can't make the hill, you're still getting some good exercise by pushing your bike. Keep up the effort. Hats off to you for riding at all. They are if you've got a long enough extension lead No, not at all if you are trying to be healthy, but in your case, it could be useful. How about getting one that uses petrol instead? It is still considered as a bicycle, not a scooter. Also, it is more powerful than the electric bike. Hang on for a while,they are working on gas bikes! They are wonderful but don't think they can be ridden like a normal bike when the battery is exhausted. just get a dirtbike. it'll cost around $500 for a used one and you never have 2 pedal again, which is really bad if you have arthuritis. and they can go on average 60mph or more. |
