I had a horrible day?!? |
I LOVE long answers...so nothing you write is too long for me I had a horrible day of friday!! ;-( 1. People are staring at where my leg used to be. (I am a 14 yr. old below knee amputee) 2. they are giving me mean looks 3. I cant reach my locker 4. In my flute solo, i had to stand up nowhere near my chair and I lost my balence, my friend amanda was there to help me keep up though. 5. I cant go on a field trip tomorrow. 6. I have so much homework that my teacher only gave mea weekend to do. 7. I graduate on thursday, and I cant walk 8. i have a hard time with my mobility 9. I can not get up the stairs in my school 10. I hate my teacher for making a huge speech about why I wasnt at school for that past two weeks 11. I cant do anything that my friends think is "cool" because of my immobility, like biking, walking to the candy shop, tennis, gymnastics...etc. HELP ME??!! You might have a leg missing but you seem to have a pretty good brain in there. I wonder which is more important? What do you think? ahhhhhhhh sweetie..... My husband is a btk amputee too.... he lost his leg in a farming accident at the age of 12...... ppl will stare at you because they do not understand..... they , most, do not mean anything by it... I still stare at times, and I have been married to my husband for 31 yrs....... we all have our limits, even those of us with all our parts.... I am getting old, so I cant do , bodily, what my brains says I can......there are things, LOTS of things you can do, find them and go for it..... your school needs to be made aware of any problems you have getting around.... by law they have to accomidate you, not you them....... the law requires them to have the means and ways for you to get where and when you need to...........as for the *cool* stuff ?? what they do may not be so cool..... think about it........ home work is a part of school and life, just do it, get it over with and be done..... school will soon be over......maybe you can get a special chair or scooter to help you get around ?? there are programs to help with the cost...... make it your job to research it on this thing...... find out what YOU need or want to help YOU get thru this ole life........... God bless You need to look into getting a prosthetic leg. That would help with your mobility issues. Honey, you are not alone. There are many amputees out there that let nothing stop them or get in their way. Take for instance Terry Fox. A man who ran across Canada with one prosthetic leg, raising money for cancer research. He has hopes and dreams. Screw the kids giving you mean looks. They do not understand what you are going through. Ok, so you almost fell during your flute solo but dammit you were there. You already have it in you to carry on and not fall behind or feel sorry for yourself. You will cross that stage at Graduation and you will feel proud. Ask friends for help. Do not feel ashamed AT ALL. Gosh, I am really sorry that you feel this way. Do not be discouraged. Not now, not ever. Hold your head up high and stay positive. If you can get a "new" leg, then do so. It will give you all the freedom you used to have. Keep fighting! Linda鈾? sounds like to me that you need new friends and tell the people that stare at you that they can get lost and about the teacher show her ur knee and tell her this is why i wasnt here the past 2 weeks Show people how strong you are. I know peoples comments get old & hurtful. Don't listen to them [as hard as that is to do].. Schools should be more accessible to anyone with any difficulties with getting around. Teachers sometimes don't understand that it's not easy to get all the makeup done in such a short amount of time. Your school doesn't have an elevator or any ramps? If your "friends" don't wanna try & do some things that you could do, then are they really your friends? Yeah, I know they might not want to change their routine, but they need to include you in it. If not, tell them they need to be better friends..Or just get new friends. I know the thing about makeup work because I had my gallbladder taken out last fall & a few of my teachers weren't so lenient with the time for the makeup work. - - just work really hard & show them that you're getting the work done as soon as you can.. Well, first of all, forgive their ignorance and set goals to do and be a person of integrity, whatever your best talents are, go with that and increase your knowledge and ability, forget people who don't understand, and maybe get in a support group, that would be a great encouragement you have your whole life ahead of you, do what you can do and let the rest go, be all that you can be |
