I have a 2001 YZ 125 and want to mill the head.Does anyone know how much should be taken off? |
Will the bike still be reliable? Does anyone of a specialty-shop where I can get this done? I don't mind having to ship the head off. lu bdk maner?kalu nk korek head jgn overdose..kalu buleh lu cari scrembler 125 punyer head pastu lu copy paste..cer?? take the head off place the piston at the top of its stroke, then put a small piece of kids play putty on the head and you can measure the clearance.but don't take too much off it will lead to engine problems and poor performance, find someone who works with race engines and ask them if they can cc the head for you.. 38 years of riding and racing Your fuel octane requirements will be higher. The engine should still be reliable assuming the correct fuel and tuning is used. I use solder to check squish clearance. You can put the solder in through the spark plug hole with the piston near TDC. Measure in two opposing places at the same time(in line with the piston pin) to minimize rocking the piston. Use solder that is close in size to the clearance that you are expecting(slightly larger than) and make sure the solder touches the cylinder wall. Then roll the piston past TDC and measure the solder with a micrometer. You need to maintain about 1mm or .040in. of clearance at the outermost edge of the squish-band. In some cases a thinner head gasket can be purchased, or a thinner cylinder base gasket can be made to reduce clearance as well without machining the head. If you do end up cutting material from the head, be sure not to cut too much, or any amount that reduces the outer diameter of the squish band in the head. There is plenty of material on this subject online. Try searching "squish clearance". |
