Frame Sliders / Protectors Yes or No??

On sportbikes frame sliders are used to help protect the plastic in low speed accidents and they can prevent the case of the bike from cracking in a drop.

I have heard some say they don鈥檛 like them and others swear by them.
Does everyone use frame sliders?? And if not, why not?

Most definitely get some!!!!!! As you said they do protect the fairings pretty well if you drop the bike. And they do save the cases on your bike from cracking. The only other thing that you would need is the slider that goes on the swingarm so that you don't booger it up or your wheels. I work at a Yamaha shop and have seen several wrecked bikes and every one that had a frame slider has survived better than those that didn't. The only frame slider that you don't want are the ones with LED lights in them because they are hollowed out for the lights to go into and this causes them to snap off when heavy impact occurs.
What??????

Never even heard of them...

What a waste of money...

Get something polished or powder coated.

Don't spend money on useless junk that you only need if you fall off.

Pros:
--if you drop your bike a lot, it will protect the frame and fairings, although you probably shouldn't be riding if you drop it often

Cons:
--they're ugly and obvious and other bikers will think you are a loser
--expensive for a little stump of plastic
I use them and have had my plastic/cases saved by them.
They're not really designed to save your plastic, just your frame and motor.

There are 2 different kinds for most bikes. The cut, and the no cut variety. With the cut type sliders, you have to drill a hole in you fairing to acomodate the sliders. These are generally the best kind to use and hold up the best.
Be very careful if you get the no-cut kind. Some of the are garbage. I have no cut lighttechs on my cbr 1000rr. The have very beefy brackets that have 2 mounting bolts for each slider. Thankfully I haven't had the opportunity to crash test them but I know people that have and they have held up pretty well.
Make sure you reseach the frame sliders you want for your bike. Google it, or ask around on som motorcycle forums.

PS- other bikers wont think your a "loser" and some people actually like the looks of them. Personally I dont, but I think they are very useful. Especially since I take my bike to the track often and appreciate the extra crash protection.
Dont listen to the dude that says you should get something polished r powdercoated. Those are the type of people that ride their bikes to the local "bike night" at hooters and hang out there all night...while the real bikers are out riding enjoying a fun windy road.
Anyone who thinks that frame sliders are worthless are stupid their damn selves!!!!
Somebody who says they don't need them don't ride and probably don't believe in wearing helmets when they are riding *****.
I had a lowside and the that $30 piece of plastic saved me over $1200 worth of damage.
Ask any sportbike rider who knows his ****.
yeah, i have heard of them and yes i have them (mine came with the bike). most people i know have them because they protect the bike from frame/body damage in the event of an accident. as for *bling, ive seen them in chrome too.
we also run them on the race bikes/track bikes. why? because they prevent the frame/covers from taking the brunt of the scuffing when/if the bike goes down, they also prevent me from having to get handy with zip-ties and duc tape when slapping race bodywork back on.
