Could you pls suggest me the route to Pulicat Lake from Chennai? |
I am planning to go to Pulicat lake with my colleagues on a bike ride and also to reach out Tada falls. Let me know the facilities available like Hotels, rest rooms, petty shops, mechanic shop if any in these locations. From chennai u take the national highway number 5. It takes you to Tada, Sulurpet. This is a very busy Highway. You have enough restaurants on th eway for your snacks and other food. Regarding hotells you will find good ones at Sulrupet. Pulicat lake is just 5- 6 Km from Sulurpet, the road which takes you to SHAR. You will find a good view of the migrating birds enroute to SHAR. There is a ITDC hotel in Sulurpet. Pulicat Lake (otherwise called Pazhaverkaadu (in Tamil)) is a brackish-water lake on the Coromandel Coast of southeastern India. It lies at the border of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh states, 60 km north of Chennai. The barrier island of Sriharikote separates the lake from the Bay of Bengal. Sriharikote is home to the town of Pulicat. You can go to this lake from Chennai via Soolurpetta. The lake is 60 km long and from 0.2 to 17.5 km wide, and is the second-largest brackish water ecosystem on India's east coast, after Orissa's Chilka Lake. The lake is shallow, and varies in area with the tides and seasonal rainfall, from 460 km虏 in high water to 250 km虏 in low water. The shallow lake is known for its diversity of aquatic birds, and is an important stopover on migration routes. Approximately 15,000 flamingos visit the lake each year, along with pelicans, kingfishers, herons, painted storks, spoonbills and ducks. The beaches of Sriharikote are an important nesting spot for sea turtles. |
