Oil for Motorcycle? |
I read in my Manual that 20W/40 oil must be put into the gearbox, however when i come to purchase this oil the guy at the shop said he had never heard of it? What oil should i use that is close to that and wont have any effect on the bike? Thanks. Are you talking about gear oil such as that used in a shaft drive or are you talking about the normal engine (and sometimes clutch) lubrication system? Yamaha and others sell a 20W40 motorcycle oil and if the guy at the shop doesn't know that I would find a new shop. maybe that guy was retarded or something coz it's fairly common stuff try 15W40 Is the bike a two stroke. If it is, then the gearbox is separate from the engine from the oil point of view and you should use EP80 gearbox oil. go to another shop where some one knows what they are talking about, or just read on the bottle it will tell you. Go to a different place to buy the oil. The person you spoke with had no clue what they were talking about. It's out there it's just not a common grade. Try a large auto parts store or Wall Mart. You should use what the mfg. recommends. If you can't find it you could use 20W/50 if it during hot weather or 10W/40 during cooler weather. Everything you wanted to no about motor but were afraid to ask.... http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/oil... sae 10w 100 go on line look up the manufacture. If you need to order it. It's better to wait it out then look it up. Always follow specs. And don't be fooled when someones says that the Numbers can be different. After all I can buy the 20w 40 right down the street 5qt of Mobil 1 for $22.00 tax included |
