Petrol leak! Help!? |
I had to buy a 'new' bike on Thursday and today I've discovered it's leaking. I believe it's the pipe going to the carb, the clips are missing and the pipe is just pushed on between a filter and the carb. But it's Bank Holiday. What can I do about it until I can get to a shop and buy some new clips? (I have to use it before then so draining it is not a prefered option) Not leaking too much is it? If its just a wee bit, fetch some pliers and a couple of bits of stiff wire. Bend the wire round the hose where it goes on the fitting and twist it til its proper tight with the pliers. That wire crap they use in kids toys packaging is just the job. don't panic. I rode all winter with a leaky petrol tap and never caught fire. i seriously wouldnt use it just take a cab instead If you think it is leaking because of the missing clips, you can by some screw clamps and use those. Unscrew them until they fully open up thenyou can put them around the tubing, put them back together and tighten them down. You wouldnt even have to do anything else that would be considered a permenante fix. Just make sure you get ones that are cloes to the right size. yeah be carefull of that mechanics wire. You do it wrong you'll cut the hose and be in worse shape. Like i said, hose clamps. piece of mechanics wire twisted around the line or a hose clamp which is available at Walmart who never closes! for now, twist some heavy wire around it, till the parts shops open up do you have any zip ties,most gas stations should have some.be careful using wire you may cut the gas line and have a bigger problem.. coudl be that the pipe is stretched or 'worked its way off a bit, or even split. it is an easy repair. It would help if i knew that make and model of bike. |
