Can you take a motorcycle operator safety course without actually owning a motorcycle? |
Are there any motorcycle shops that would provide you with a bike to learn and make sure you like it first or do you always have to buy one first? The first part of your question depends upon where you live. Where I live the State Department of Transportation covers the cost of the Motorcycle Safet Course and provides bikes on which to take the class. They do not permit ANYONE to take the beginner rider class on their own motorcycles. Take a look at http://www.msf-usa.org/ As for the second part of your question, I don't know of any shops that will let you borrow a bike for a safety course, but many will allow you to test ride a bike before buying, sometimes over a weekend. A particular shop near me even has a reasonable satisfaction guarantee. I don't see why anyone would buy from a shop that did not allow you to ride the bike first. Just get a buddy who trusts you to let you borrow his bike to take the course in... even better, if he hasn't taken the course talk him into taking it with you. NO, a motorcycle shop will not loan you or let you for the most part test a bike out. As for the safety course, some places have bike available some don't, you are just gonna have to check. Some of the courses provide bikes for new riders. Just takes longer to get into them if you have to borrow their bikes. the motorcycle safety foundation provides the bike for their basic course |
