How much does it usually cost to get a top end rebuilt on a CR250? |
I'm thinking about getting a 2 stroke bike but don't want to be wrenching on it all the time. So I'm wonding how much on average shops charge to rebuilt the top end of these things. You'll have roughly $125 in parts. Labor of course depends upon the shops rate, but I'd figure on roughly 1.5 to 2.0 hours. The thing is, if you have any kind of mechanical aptitude you can do it yourself. If your going to be riding regularly you really should learn how to maintain the bike yourself anyway. It isn't hard, and doesn't require any special tools outside of a torque wrench. I usually get at least one racing season out of a top end on a 250 or 300, which is 16 two hour hare scrambles plus some trail riding time in between races. But to achieve this I don't use cheap oils and always service the air filter and change the engine oil after each ride. Good luck! EDIT: I find it funny that mxlj warns against buying from a dealer, then suggests and gives links to, off all things, DEALER WEBSITES. Here's a heads up... The only businesses that can buy and sell either O.E.M. or aftermarket powersports products are DEALERS. Whether it is a franchised O.E.M. or independent shop, they are ALL dealers. The overwhelming majority of businesses on the 'net selling parts and accessories are dealers or shops that sell at a discount via the net or mail order to augment thier income and boost sales volumes. That being said, why wouldn't you want to support local businesses and keep money in your own communities and area? Anymore there are shops on nearly every street corner so finding a local shop or dealership in which to build a relationship with is easy. Even using the argument that it's not in stock doesn't make sense, because if you do business on the net YOU are ordering the part. So why not let a local business do the same thing and help your local economy? yes a shop will charge $250 to $300 but you can do it for about $75 to $100 your self easily. that includes piston, rings, circlips, wristpin, all top end gaskets. dont buy parts from dealer. you can get the whole kit, for the price of rings and piston from a dealer. buy parts from http://www.midwestactioncycle.com/... bikebandit.com etc |
