Newer homes, some acreage, country living environment, low crime rate, nearby shopping mall, churches, good public schools, lake, biking, green areas, and Wal-Mart are essential.
I would go with either Tyler or Terrell. Tyler is in deeply conservative East Texas and is in the middle of a building boom: good education, housing shopping, medical facilities, etc. Terrell is a smaller city only about 30 minutes away from the Metroplex. It is good if you want a more rural type of background. It too is building up. It has a great outlet mall.

former Terrell teacher I definently would go with either McKinney or Plano. They have the most to do. :-)
