Who should we contact about a dog that was abandoned who is a new mother?

My little brother was riding his bicycle down the road when this car came speeding around the corner and a boxer thrown out the car. My brother picked up the dog and carried it home. The dog has several injuries, not severe, but bad enough. Her **** are raw, her nose is scraped up with a chunk torn out, two of her teeth are loose, and her stomach has road rash. The worse part is that she is recently gave birth, we can tell because she is full of milk. Also, my parents raise chichuauas and she goes up to the pups and smell them and then starts this little doggy welp. My brother got a partial part of the License plate and a good description of the vehical and a pretty good description of the guy who threw the dog out. We are petrified for the pups - as you know boxers are known as being raised as fighting dogs. Should we call the police or animal control? We don't want the pups going to to an shelter where they may be put to sleep, we would gladly take the pups and raise them.

We are keeping the mother. And that is all there is to that.

Sadly, there may not be any more puppies...

Call the nearest SPCA about the mom though - and speak to their animal cruelty investigators. They will want all the information you can give them. Good for you guys in being so observant and helping her. Also call the local police and report the incident there, as well.

She needs to see a vet as soon as possible, and have pictures taken - she needs to be evaluated as part of the cruelty investigation and everything documented. If you can take pictures now, that would help, before you clean her up at all.

Check and see if all her nipples are Ok - since she has been nursing the puppies, they will be ok for now, but check in the morning and make sure none of them are hard and hot - she could develop mastitis without having her milk expressed.

The most effective way of drying up her milk is to not feed her for 24 hours - and I don't know whether you shoud do that now, or wait until the vet sees her. Having millk is evidence, and I would hate to think it wasn't obvious, but on the other hand, it isn't good for her to be producing milk when she has no puppies. perhaps wait until tomorrow when you can hopefully get her to a vet for documentatiion, but do check her in the morning.

If she has mastitis in any of the guns, apply a warm compress - get a folded wad of paper towels wet with very warm water, and apply it to the infected mammary gland, and then express it gently if you can. If this happens, she would need some antibiotics.

But do try and call the SPCA right away - and ask the investigator what to do about having her condition documented properly.

And be very careful to NOT discuss this with anyone - in fact, you might want to delete this question. Anyone who would do this sort of thing, and dogfight guys in particular, are very dangerous people. You don't want them to know who you are.

If you guys have the puppies I'd still call the humane society. They wouldn't put the puppies down[because they wouldn't even have been fought]. The mother would be the only one I'd be worried about. If she was fought before they'd put her down.

I'd call the humane society to file a report of abuse. I'm not sure what they'd do with the female dog though :[[

Call both and tell them what happened, and if they find the pups and they are able to be raised that you want to do so. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the pups are in such poor health that it would be better for them to be put down and end their pain.

People who do these things need to have their balls chopped off, end of story.

Call both. It is a crime to dump animals like that. The shelter culd help the dog, and may have a cruelty investigator, and the police should be called for any crime.

Call both of them right now...that is the meanest thing I have ever heard of. I cant believe somebody would do that that is horrible. Call them both and get the a**hole that did that in as much trouble as you can!!!!!

I think you should keep the mother, as you are, then raise the puppies till there about 3months. Train them all the right things, and tell them the wrong, then sell them.

phone an animal shelter place and say you found a dog and her liter can some pick her up she need vet care so do it soon

Your brother is very lucky that the dog didn't hurt him. I would call animal control about the situation. The puppies well I am not too sure what to say about them, I think you and I both know what will happen to them. Once as animal control has the mother they will fix her up and if she is adoptable then she's go to a new home. If your shelters are full and they euthanize the animals you may want to give her to a good home yourself. I would also contact the police ASAP with the description of the vehicle and partial plate number, hopefully they can get those people and get the puppies to a safe place. I think its great that you are keeping the mother, but how old are the pups? If they are younger then 8 weeks they have to stay with the mother =] I would call animal control and tell them the situation, if its needed they will bring the police. Then they can take the pups and its not likely they will put them to sleep, if they are young they wont have had time to get aggressive. Let the professional take care of the situation =]

For sure, call the police and give them all the information. Chances are that they know the guy because these kind of people are usually in trouble with the law. Also call the SPCA and animal control and insist that a report be made. Write everything down. His description, car description- make model and partial plate, where it occurred, at what time etc. Write it down now so your brother doesn't forget details.
Also call the newspaper and ask if they can print a story on it with a picture of the dog. Someone may come forward with information. Paper like these human/animal stories so you have a chance of getting it printed. Good luck. Thank your brother for being such a wonderful person and bringing this dog to a loving home.
