Just found out I'm pregnant and Working in Manufactoring Company, safe?

I have been working at a little company for about a year that all under one small roof designs, manufactors, sells, markets, and does accoutning for bicycle lights. I am in accoutning so I don't physically touch any parts, but I walk by and handle paperwork that others have touched, and there are fumes, from parts that say "can cause birth defects and Cancer. The fumes lately make me naecious and dizzy. We have no HR Dept. So, how can I found out if I will be safe?

Talk to your dr. and use hand sanitizer as much as posible. For the fumes the only thing I can think of would be an air filer that you can put at your desk, but that may or may not work. Just talk to your dr and she will be able to tell your more.

All chemicals used at the company should have MSDS sheets.

Can you work in a well ventilated area or at home?

I am an airline mechanic and all of our chemicals are very harmful, I was taken off the floor as soon as I found out I was pregnant and put in the office. Our office is still connected to the hangar and I had some exposure to fumes, but nothing direct. My husband also is a mech for the same company and I was exposed to him every day after his shift. I was just careful to always wash my hands and if I did have to be on the floor I would wear all the protective gear indicated on the MSDS sheets.

In my opinion, if you are having a reaction from the fumes, there's an issue. Personally, if I could not leave the job, I was get an air filter system (room size). I'd also avoid hand sanitizer- use soap and water instead. The owner of the company should have air quality testing done in the facility, and those records are public. Ask to see the records. Including the air quality in your office space.

The fumes you are smelling come from somewhere and that container should have a MSDS label on the side if it contains hazardous materials.
