Disc brakes screech after oiling? |
The chain was abit rusty after the ride in the rain, so i took some bicycle oil and started oiling them, and later, ever exposed metal parts find including the disc brakes. after that, i can never brake properly again. any solution? OH MAN!!! That's so sad =( so much are the brakes going to cost me?? I also never ride in the rain. Not only does it wreak havoc on the metal you can see, but the bearings life will be dramatically shortened. You should never put oil anywhere near your brakes, especially disc brakes. At a minimum you will need to replace the brake pads and clean the rotors off. Oiling brakes to get rid of squeaks is a funny line, but you're supposed to know not to really do it! Brakes work by generating friction, and without it, ... no brakes! The others are correct, if you've oiled your rotors, you've contaminated the brake pads and you'll probably have to replace them. However, it might be worth the effort to first remove the pads and try to wash them and the rotors with a solution of dishwasher detergent and water. What have you got to lose? You should never never never put lube on your rotors. You have ruined your brake pads: once lube gets on your pads they will never function properly and cannot be fixed. They must be replaced. Take your bike to a bike shop. This will be a costly mistake; but, hopefully, one that you will not make again. If possible, I recommend never riding in the rain (I live in an arid region). I will not ride my bike through a puddle or cross a stream. Water is the #1 enemy of bikes. If you must ride in the rain, you must attend to your bike immediately. replace the pads and wipe rotors with acetone then lightly sand rotors with fine grit metal sand paper |
