94 dodge intrepid, wont shift into gear, clunks and makes noise when trying to put in gear. Trans or Cv joint?

First started with a noise like a card in a bicycle spoke on front passenger side when turning. Then one day put it into reverse, it made the same noise only louder then lost all gear. when I try to put it into gear it makes a clunking noise like its trying to find a gear. The stablizer bar ( runs from axel to strut) is off at the joint on the bottom. I would like to fix it myself, but am unsure exactly what parts and if there are any special tools needed.

sounds like a broken outer cv joint. turn the wheel, have someone put it in gear while you watch. have them let off the brake and see if the axle is spinning. if it spins you know the cv joint is broken. you can get a reman shaft with a lifetime warranty at most parts stores for 60 or $70, and they take 30 minutes to replace.
