I don't wanna hurt my mum's feelings but what do I do?

On my sister's 15th birthday, my mum bought my sister an electric guitar. On my brother's 12th birthday, my mum bought him a new bicycle.
On my 18th birthday, my mum got me this horrendous shirt with conflicting colours and it doesn't suit me. I didn't want anything fancy for my birthday but don't you think it's unfair on my mum's part? I don't wanna upset her or anything but I'm NEVER gonna wear what she gave me. How do I tell her without hurting her feelings?

It might seem unfair to you but she may see you in a whole different light than she sees your brother or sister.

Tell her thank you for the shirt but you don't think it suits you well and you appreciate the attempt she made to make you happy.

Leave it at that.

Why do you have to tell her anything? Just don't wear the shirt if you think it looks hideous on you.

its funny you mentioned that. when u were a child, Ur mom showed u what color was. now that u know all the colors of the rainbow, u think u know it all. sorry 2 b so blunt, but I'm being real. Ur mom doesn't deserve Ur attitude. when u were a child and u gave her one of Ur "cool" presents, I'm pretty sure she took it and felt it was special in her eyes (even when Ur siblings didn't think so). ur mother went tru too much 4 u 2 b arrogant in this matter. yeah Ur siblings have better presents than u, so what? move on. u'll b surprised who her favorite is. hang in there pal, the one thing u don't want is for Ur mom to regret bringing u into the world. if ur alive now, its only bcause of her. bro do unto others what u would want others to do 2 u!

just be like" you should of took me with you when you were buying this.... im not to crazy about the colors...." thats not painful or rude ....

but to be honest.. she might still be hurt over the fac tthat you didnt like it... motheres are so sensitive..... good luck...


one more thing ... just make sure you say it in nics soft tone .. nothing harsh....

it would seem that your mum wasn't really thinking about hurting your feelings giving you some thoughtless, obligatory gift.
Why do we have to suck it up all the time cuz where afraid we'll hurt the gift givers feelings? Did she even ask you what you wanted for your Birthday? If not, then she wasn't pressed about how you'd feel receiving it. Unless she's prone to nervous breakdowns, then I think you should be honest and tell her that you don't like it, hell maybe she can return it and get you something else or better yet give you the cash.

I am a mother and you sound like my 18 year old daughter. But she never asks for anything . She got mad cause she did not get a dog and her sister did, she did not ask. She never asks for something big my other children do??? I would buy her big things?? So maybe you not asking,

Tell her the shirt doesn't suit you and go shopping together to pick something else out.
